Biography

After receiving a Masters Degree in Social Work from Columbia University in 1979, I worked for 11 years at the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services (“JBFCS”), one of the largest mental health clinics in New York City, where I received further training and treated individuals, couples, and families with a wide range of issues. In 1990, I obtained specialty training in eating disorders through the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia (“CSAB”). I have had a private practice on the Upper West Side of Manhattan since 1986.

I am currently on the faculty of CSAB, where I supervise therapists training in the program on eating disorders. I teach a course on integrating psychodynamic treatment and behavioral therapy models, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (“CBT”) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (“DBT”), in the treatment of eating disorders. I have found that new evidence-based approaches, such as CBT and DBT, are extremely useful in helping clients with eating disorders address self-defeating behaviors, thoughts and feelings, and are very effectively combined with psychodynamic therapy.

In addition to my specialty practice focused on eating disorders, I continue to work with individuals and couples who have a wide range of issues in their personal and professional lives and relationships.
