Seeking therapy when you have an eating disorder requires courage. Anorexia, bulimia and binge eating are often accompanied by feelings of shame and secrecy. It may even be difficult for you to admit the problem to yourself. Sometimes it may feel like it helps you cope and gain some control over your life, but at great cost. These behaviors may end up taking over your life and cause unwanted emotions, as well as physical or medical symptoms. But it’s not easy, and changing established and powerful habits can be very difficult, even if you realize they are not healthy and can be damaging to you.

In therapy, we will work together to identify and understand the issues that stand in your way, alleviate your symptoms and build a strategy to help you regain a healthy balance in your life. Everyone is different, and we will seek an individualized approach to help you find your own voice and build the life you want to lead.

Sometimes, to properly treat eating disorders, we will need to seek additional resources, as part of a treatment team. These may include the participation of a primary care physician, a nutritionist, and if medication is needed, a psychiatrist. If this is appropriate in your case, I will help you assemble the team and will work to coordinate everyone’s effort on your behalf. If more advanced medical care is needed, I will also assist you in obtaining it and help ensure balance in your medical and emotional needs.
